COMMISSIONING ROLE, SOUVENIR PRESS
For many years, Souvenir Press had one of the best personal development lists in London, encompassing psychology, birth and child development, eastern religions and popular business, health, inspiration and MBS titles. Profile Books has taken over Souvenir Press and we would like to commission exciting new projects and reactivate the backlist. We plan to develop Souvenir into a creative, dynamic lifestyle imprint, covering a wide range of publishing from personal development to popular science and books on health and wellness. We want to make space for books about life too – memoirs or narratives on a wide range of subjects. Self-improvement can mean tackling a single skill, finding the inspiration to make a change, or just feeling confident that there are people out there like you.
This is an exceptional opportunity for someone with a passion for commissioning in all areas of personal development. We are looking for someone with an ambition to publish the best books in these diverse fields, with a particular focus on commercial titles and perhaps the potential to develop some series publishing too.
The Role
- Commissioning books for Souvenir, including initiating new projects and searching out new talent
- Managing and bringing new life to the backlist
- Helping the Publisher to bring direction to the list
- Author care
- Championing and ‘publishing’ your books inside the company and to the wider world
- Editing manuscripts
- Negotiating and creating contracts
- Maintaining relationships with key members of the trade, agents, authors, US publishers and journalists
- Performing all the processes necessary to publish good books (appraisals, AI sheets, creating cover copy and excellent metadata, garnering quotes etc)
- Attending book fairs and conferences as required
The appointed editor will report to the Publisher of Souvenir. Salary according to experience.
