Campaigns Director, Adults

We are looking to appoint a Campaigns Director, Adults to direct the publicity and marketing program for Quarto’s illustrated adult imprints into the UK marketplace, across 14 imprints and 10 subject verticals, approximately 400 books a year.  With at least 5 years publicity and marketing experience for illustrated books, you are a strong team leader who can collaborate across a broad range of disparate publishers and publishing programs.  You will have strong media relationships and marketing insight and you are well positioned to lead the team to grow and leverage these relationships for their subject areas.  You are efficient and able to lead a department to prioritise many titles a year.

 

Key Results Areas

  • Direct and plan campaign/promotional program for the Adult Lists, developing relationships, directing publicity and marketing managers on pitching each title, and ensuring top exposure in all relevant media, online and social media.
  • Direct, plan and execute Marketing program for the Adult List, including advertising, mailings, print promotions, trade and consumer marketing, partnership marketing, product placement, and so on.
  • Direct UK Adult Books Marketing and Publicity team, ensuring effectiveness, strategic approach, strong results, and productivity.
  • Give particular focus to building online promotional strategy and targeting growth in this area across all online retailers.
  • Direct and plan a gift publicity and marketing strategy for both the gift list and for giftable books to the gift channel and the gift market, as well as within their core subject markets.
  • Liaise with the Marketing Director team (Adults and Children’s) - UK and US – to continue to build and develop shared best practice for Quarto, tools and resources for a range of marketing strategies to be used across all subject areas and imprints as appropriate.
  • Set and meet annual plans and marketing budgets for the Adult list, in collaboration with your colleagues.
  • Hold meetings with the global Publishing and Sales teams for the Adult lists to present plans, progress, and gather feedback and to collaboratively develop ongoing plans for the list.
  • Ensure team is working closely with authors, coaching, directing, and integrating their promotional activities with those being executed in house.
  • Direct team to generate extensive media and consumer coverage across traditional media, online and social media.
  • Lead team in executing blog tours and any media tours and/or events as needed.
  • Research, negotiate with, and manage outside freelance marketing resources as needed.
  • Analyse and report on the results of marketing and publicity initiatives and their impact on sales on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, as appropriate.
  • Plan, Set, and Manage budgets, schedules, and priorities in support of these initiatives, taking into account the appropriate level of resources, target audience, type of media, materials, and associated events.
  • Communicate regularly to the company on marketing and publicity initiatives, developments, and accomplishments.
  • Work with National Account and Specialty Sales Reps to ensure customers are informed of publicity and marketing activity that might support sales efforts in the various channels, and partner with them to provide marketing materials that may aid their sales strategies.
  • Liaise with Corporate Communications to ensure media communications are on brand.
  • Work in partnership with the global Publishers, Editors and Authors from all Adult’s lists from the proposal stage of the book to provide trade input research and feedback, build promotional partnerships and strategies as part of the publishing process, and maximise marketing opportunities as part of the publishing strategy of the book.

 

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Required

  • Broad understanding of adult illustrated book market
  • Strong and proven relationships with a wide range of adult book media
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office systems and applications
  • Extremely strong written and oral communication skills
  • Able to work very independently and be a strong self-starter; someone who enjoys forging their own path
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of publishers and priorities
  • Ability to work quickly and decisively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage a team, some of which are not in the same office
  • 5-10 years’ experience planning, executing and leading publicity for an illustrated adult book list
  • 5-10 years’ experience successfully leading a team
