Quarto Publishing – the original co-edition list in The Quarto Group – produces illustrated books with a well-deserved reputation for style and quality. The main focus of its list is art instruction and crafts, although Quarto publishes into many other illustrated categories, including cookery, music, history, gardening, lifestyle, and reference.
We are looking for a conscientious, creative and proactive project editor with a proven track record in delivering high quality illustrated books on schedule and budget. You must able to take responsibility for managing several titles, from initial concept through to final, print-ready files. You will have a meticulous eye for detail, supreme organisational skills and plenty of initiative. You must have an organised mind, and be able to prioritise your workload and drive your projects forward. A great team player who works well under pressure, you will have superb communication and negotiation skills. You will enjoy working with designers and freelance editors – both in and out of house – and be more than happy to liaise directly with client publishers, authors, contributors, picture libraries and photographers. You will be unflappable and positive in the face of pressing deadlines – and will thrive on resolving often complex problems.
The successful candidate will have high editorial standards, an excellent eye for detail and a well-developed visual sense, and will be a proficient Mac user (InDesign, Excel and Word are essential). If you want to further your career in a dynamic and challenging environment, this will prove an exciting and rewarding position. A minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in illustrated publishing is preferable. Salary is dependent on experience.
