Assistant Editor, RCOG Journals

An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Editor to join the RCOG Journals team. The RCOG Journals team is responsible for the publication of two journals; BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (BJOG) and The Obstetrician & Gynaecologist (TOG). Both journals are peer-reviewed, editorially independent, owned by the College, and published by Wiley on behalf of the RCOG. BJOG primarily publishes original research and TOG primarily publishes reviews for continuing professional development and life-long education.
 

The RCOG Journals team comprises a Head of Publishing, a Content Development Editor, BJOG and a Senior Assistant Editor, RCOG Journals. The team reports to the Director of Digital Transformation. This is an exciting time to join the team as we set out to ensure we take full advantage of the opportunities that digital publishing offers for the journals’ development, as well as supporting the delivery of the RCOG’s digital strategy.
 

You will be responsible for supporting the RCOG Journals team to provide a high quality service to authors and readers by ensuring the effective processing of manuscripts, facilitating editors, authors, and reviewers, and supporting the Journals team in delivering journal development projects and initiatives. You will report to the Head of Publishing.
 

As a successful candidate, you will be educated to degree level or equivalent and ideally have professional experience in an STM journal publishing, medical or science online publishing environment, including peer review, editing and proofreading. You must have strong organisational skills with excellent time management, be flexible but meticulous and have proven high quality customer service skills. You will also have excellent IT skills, including good knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs, good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with people at all levels, both verbally and in writing.
