Acquisition Manager
Due to substantial growth a publisher of technical learning content is looking to recruit an experienced technical professional to oversee the commissioning of author talent to meet and exceed new and growing opportunities within the company’s successful publishing programme.
Reporting to the Product Manager, the Acquisition Manager will work directly with a remote team of Editors to acquire some of the best subject matter experts in the world, and find the best talent available. This role will assess a substantial number of book outlines per month for a number of their best-selling products, and work with the Research department for technical coverage.
Some of the key responsibilities will involve:
- Overseeing the commissioning of subject matter experts for technical knowledge, English language and marketability, to the end of improving the quality of the organisation’s author selection.
- Delivering the required number of outlines every month
- Managing pipeline of language authors, ensuring that they are sent to Language Support Editors
- Checking product information and other metadata
- Ensuring smooth handover of authors to content development
- Coaching Acquisition Editors and authors in the preparation of book outlines
- Remotely coaching/mentoring authors and a team of Acquisition Editors
- Pinpointing weaknesses in a book’s organization and writing
- Strategizing the structure of books to create engaging technical content that enables readers to seamlessly adapt to new technology
The successful person will be:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Related editorial/publishing experience, ideally from a technical publishing background
- Strong affinity with or a natural interest in the tech industry
- A strong leader as you will need to ensure that the teams of Acquisition Editors are able to work to given deadlines
- Able to travel to Mumbai once every quarter
