Postscript is a successful and highly regarded mail order bookseller based near Newton Abbot in Devon, selling good quality, mainly non-fiction new, overstock and reprint titles, to a UK customer base. All the entries in our 68-page monthly print catalogue, marketing campaigns, and website – www.psbooks.co.uk – are written to exacting standards. We now have a vacancy for a copy editor who will ensure that the house style and quality of writing is maintained in all customer communications.
This full-time position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced copy editor to fill a crucial and rewarding role within an extremely successful and rapidly expanding bookselling company.
You will be responsible for overseeing, proofreading and copy editing the work of a small team of freelance writers across all media, including hard copy, social media, digital content and e-newsletters. You will work alongside the catalogue and marketing departments, and report to the Managing Director.
The job
- Manage the output of a team of freelance writers, ensuring factual and grammatical accuracy
- Copy edit the descriptions for 200 new titles each month, and the shortened texts for around 100 catalogue entries per month
- Ensure introductory and incidental text both online and offline adheres to company style
- Manage the uploading of content, adhering to strict deadlines at all times
- Proofread catalogue and marketing offline campaigns and digital content
- Work closely with the inhouse catalogue and marketing teams, and designers working remotely
- Actively participate in regular planning and analysis meetings
The successful candidate will
- Have considerable experience of copywriting and copy editing
- Have experience in copy editing creative content in hard copy and digital media
- Have excellent grammar and syntax skills and the ability to monitor concise and accurate prose
- Be well-read, knowledgeable and highly literate, with a real commitment to books and bookselling
- Think strategically, work easily under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines
