Sandstone Press is an independent publisher, founded in 2002 and based in Dingwall in the Highlands of Scotland. Sandstone publishes about thirty fiction and non-fiction titles a year.
 

Sandstone Press books have won or been shortlisted for many literary prizes including the Man Booker, Commonwealth, Arthur C Clarke, Creative Scotland, Green Carnation, Saltire Society, Petrona, Bill Rollinson Prize for Landscape and Tradition, Boardman Tasker, Not the Booker, and Desmond Elliott Awards.
 

Sandstone Press is represented by D J Segrue Ltd in Great Britain and in Ireland and Dufour Editions in North America. Our books are distributed by BookSource, ebooks by Faber Factory Powered by Constellation.

Location: Sandstone Press, Dingwall
Salary: £18,500pa; initial one year contract with potential for renewal
 

Job Objective
To assist Sandstone Press to increase retail sales.
 

Key Tasks

  • Liaise with the sales team on all aspects of retail in UK and Ireland
  • Liaise with sales team on discounts/promotions/events, including preparation of order forms
  • Provide data to overseas distributors and agents, and liaise with them to facilitate and support sales
  • Work with Assistant Publisher, Production, to monitor stock levels and advise on reprints
  • Maintain and update website, liaising with Publicity Officer
  • Monitor sales by web site MyBooksource and in due course develop Sandstone website to increase sales 
  • Monitor and analyse ebook sales, including promotions, and work with others to maximise and develop
  • Develop relationships with key accounts
  • Build relationships with targeted bookshops, to support Sandstone authors
  • Other tasks relevant to the job, as specified by the Sandstone Board of Directors

Employee Specification
Knowledge 

  • Degree in Publishing or related discipline 
  • Knowledge of the Publishing Industry
  • Knowledge of bookselling

Experience    

  • At least one year’s experience of working in publishing and/or the book trade

  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure, and use initiative
  • Accurate record keeping and timely reporting

At present Sandstone Press employs three full time members of staff in addition to its three directors: an Administrator, a Publicist and an Assistant Publisher (Submissions and Production). Sandstone contracts with freelance designers, copy-editors and proof-readers, and an IT specialist.
