The opportunity
World-renowned illustrated publisher Thames & Hudson is looking for an experienced marketing specialist with an absolute passion for books to work on titles across all areas of visual creativity – the arts, architecture, design, photography, fashion, film and music – as well as archaeology, history and popular culture. This is a rare opportunity for a marketer to promote a diverse list, play a vital role in our consumer-facing activities and manage a small team. The Head of Marketing reports to the Communications Director. The maternity cover will start in late October/early November and is anticipated to be between 9 and 12 months.
The role
- Devising and delivering creative marketing campaigns for key titles across all book categories
- Assisting with the delivery of the strategic vision for Thames & Hudson’s online and social presence including overseeing the creation of content and email marketing, SEO, paid media and analytics
- Growing our website traffic and online communities, and driving sales through direct-to-consumer marketing
- Proactively pursuing partnerships with like-minded brands to promote key titles and the Thames & Hudson brand
- Working closely with the publicity team on title-specific campaigns
- Effectively communicating with internal and external stakeholders on all aspects of marketing
- Negotiating and developing advertising campaigns
- Briefing artwork for print and online adverts
- Overseeing the creation of trade marketing materials and catalogues
- Working with the sales team on retail marketing ideas
- Analysing and reporting marketing results
- Building an in-depth understanding of Thames & Hudson’s audiences and competitor activity
- Attending key cross-departmental meetings as required
- Liaising with the US and Australian marketing teams on campaigns
- Managing a small team of marketers in producing high quality work and delivering the strategy
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Extensive experience in similar roles and great team player able to manage a team at senior marketing manager capacity
- A self-starter and multi-tasker
- Excellent copywriting skills
- Ability to work independently and set deadlines for self and others
- Good communications skills are key, as is a good knowledge of digital marketing and retail channels
- Ability to work with external brands and organisations
- Good time management skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to negotiate
- Innovative strategist with the ability to plan campaigns on a small budget
- Experience with social media advertising, Google Analytics and social media analytics
This role is a full-time maternity cover position, based in Holborn.
