Senior Manager, Business Development - Distribution (37295)

The Senior Manager, Business Development – Distribution, is responsible for supporting and growing the third-party distribution business at the European Distribution Centre (EDC). You will be a subject matter expert in the EMEA book distribution services market. In this role you will develop and execute a marketing and sales plan to actively seek out and sign additional distribution service business, working with the existing client base to ensure consistent levels of service are being met, identifying any service improvements, and collaborating with the appropriate Wiley teams to execute.  You will meet regularly with all clients to help build and maintain customer loyalty and trust and foster a relationship based on continuous improvement. You will also have responsibility for all contract management and compliance for all clients and be responsible for monitoring and reporting on the performance of the distribution services business, analysing financial performance, such as margin, and operational metrics such as obsolescence, and make recommendations for contract or operational enhancements/changes.

Responsibilities

You will develop relationships with potential new distribution services clients, while also meeting with the existing client base to review performance, ensuring they are satisfied with the service Wiley provides and feel they are engaged in a positive, constantly improving relationship with Wiley. You will collaborate with Global Operations and other Wiley colleagues to develop solutions to service gaps or new service needs, fostering an internal attitude of customer service and continuous improvement towards our distribution services clients.  Troubleshooting requests from clients, ensuring appropriate escalation, you will minimize the impact of any daily transactional issues and engage clients to mitigate any service dissatisfaction.

Collaborating with IT and Global Operations Systems Product Owners, you will prioritize and deliver new systems solutions related to distribution service needs.  You will also spearhead new initiatives to improve service or reporting, providing proper messaging and client inclusion in all initiatives, and achieve sales goals for revenue and margin, regularly reporting on progress against these goals.  With the end goal being instilling in our customer base the idea that data is a valuable tool, you will monitor data feeds related to clients and ensure integrity, accuracy, and consistency of all required data.

Requirements

  • Degree in relevant field - Courses in Operations Management or Supply Chain are a preference
  • 5 years in sales, business development, or account management in a distribution or supply chain services field
  • Experience selling 3PL distribution services are desirable
  • Basic knowledge of distribution operations
  • Contract review and negotiation skills
  • Understands and monitors business activities and processes which drive client satisfaction and utilizes this knowledge to develop improvement initiatives.
  • Able to develop accurate sales budgets and forecasts.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with peers, colleagues, management and others.
  • Exceptional analytical skills coupled with excellent follow-up and information dissemination.
  • Understand organization’s information structure and uses it to accomplish goals mutually beneficial to both the individual and organization.
  • Actively seeks, recommends and implements new ideas/solutions which improve financial performance and/or service
  • Able to undertake regular UK travel and occasional international travel
