Yale University Press London is searching for a global Sales and Marketing Director

As the largest American university press in Europe, the Press is highly regarded for its world-class Art list, its path-breaking scholarly books that reach a broader audience, and its acclaimed commercial books.

This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional publishing professional to join our executive team, as we develop and deliver ambitious plans for sales growth and greater impact within the public and cultural communities we serve. 

The successful candidate will lead the sales, marketing and operations teams and functions, driving the commercial expansion of the Press and raising brand awareness globally.

Job Profile:

  • Key responsibilities include:
  • Lead all teams on customer, territory and book opportunities and priorities in rapidly changing markets
  • Set and deliver challenging sales targets and ambitious revenue growth
  • Work closely with the Managing Director to ensure the strategy and activity of Yale University Press London and Yale University Press New Haven are harmonised and in close alignment
  • Produce, analyse and interpret sales, marketing, customer and product data identifying trends and put in place actionable solutions
  • Align marketing activity with sales activities and priorities for maximum revenue
  • Evaluate and provide strategic direction for inventory and supply chain management in conjunction with the Finance Director, Managing Director and Inventory Manager
  • Encourage commitment to YUPL’s values and goals throughout the organisation

 

We are looking for an exceptional publishing professional who is driven to make an impact in the publishing world, and on scholars and readers in the competitive Art, Trade and Academic publishing arenas.
 

You will have a strong record of achievement at a senior level in sales within trade non-fiction or scholarly publishing. Significant experience in the use of data analytics to improve performance is crucial, and experience in the scoping and implementation of technology systems and platforms would be valuable.
 

You will bring energy, enthusiasm and creativity to the role, and will provide actionable strategic insight thoughtfully and articulately.  A leader who works collaboratively, you will know that organisations thrive by bringing out the best in their people and you will inspire, motivate and guide others to reach goals.
 

Candidate Profile:

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Substantial experience in sales and marketing within trade or academic publishing
  • Significant experience of a senior sales leadership role
  • Experience of successful development of sales strategies and plans
  • Proven track record in achieving sustainable sales growth
  • Proven ability to lead sales teams and manage staff to achieve agreed and ambitious performance targets
  • Strong sales, negotiation, communication and presentation skills
  • Experience in managing Amazon and other online accounts
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proven commercial and strong numeracy skills
  • Proven proficiency in managing sales forecasting and setting of performance goals
  • Proven ability to work independently to solve complex problems with minimal supervision
  • Entrepreneurial, creative ideas driven approach to marketing
  • Ability to coach and mentor

 

Desirable Experience

  • Substantial experience in sales and marketing within serious illustrated publishing
  • In depth knowledge of latest developments in digital marketing as applied to trade and academic publishing

 

The Location:
The role will be based at our offices on Bedford Square in Bloomsbury WC1, with convenient access to the Northern and Central lines as well as many bus routes.
