Salary: Up to £25,000 per annum depending on experience

Yale University Press London is looking for a publicist with approximately two years’ experience in a publicity role or relevant equivalent role to work on its prestigious art and architecture list.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing, you will show strategic and creative thinking, and be a confident communicator. You will already have some of your own contacts with the general press and art press and be able to handle all aspects of author PR including:  features, reviews, events, launches, lectures and festival appearances. Some experience of working with images and an awareness of image copyright is desirable.

Purpose of Job

To work on all aspects of publicity and communications for the Yale Art and Architecture list and Yale’s museum partner titles.

To plan publicity campaigns in consultation with the Head of Marketing, and marketing, editorial and sales colleagues.

To regularly communicate with colleagues in sales and marketing, in the UK and US office, about events, author activities, festivals and campaign details.

To maintain regular communications with key museum partners.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

1. Devise and implement publicity campaigns for selected art and architecture titles in consultation with the Head of Marketing.

2. Manage relationships with media contacts, setting up extracts, features and author interviews, including TV and radio.

3. Administer review copy requests for art titles.

4. Organise and run events for art authors and books, including launches, lectures and festival appearances.

5. Communicate publicity plans and coverage to the sales team and rep force to support selling.

6. Work closely with colleagues within the Marketing, Sales and Editorial departments in Yale’s London and New Haven offices to plan and co-ordinate publicity plans and advance materials.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a team-oriented approach, sharing information and collaborating with colleagues.
  • Contribute to the upkeep of the media database and maintain and create media lists.
  • Maintain campaign records so that results can be assessed and inform the publishing process.
  • Attend and contribute to marketing meetings, planning documents and general departmental administration.
  • Work with all departments to ensure high standards of design, copy and accuracy - to deadlines.
  • Support colleagues at launch parties and events as required.
  • Perform any other duties from time to time as required by the head of marketing.

Person Specification – Key knowledge & skills

Essential:

  •    Approximately two years’ experience in a publicity role or relevant equivalent role.
  •    Experience relevant to working on art history titles.
  •    Ability to organise campaigns, plan strategically and prioritise work.
  •    Good communicator with track record of forging links with press, venues, organisations and influencers/bloggers.
  •    Confident handling of all aspects of author PR including features, reviews, lectures, events and festival appearances.
  •    Confident taking responsibility for organising external events and liaising with venues/partners.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office

Desirable:

  •    Established press contacts.
  •    Experience using digital/social media outreach in campaigns.
  •    Familiarity with Gorkana or similar media intelligence solution.
  •    Experience working with images/awareness of copyright protocols.
  •    Awareness of data protection laws.
  •    Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
