Quarto Publishing require a talented, creative and organized Editor to provide maternity cover within the Young Quarto editorial department. In this varied and hands-on role, the Editor will join a dynamic team who are passionate about producing the very best children’s books, taking titles through every stage from initial idea to finished product.
Young Quarto – consisting of words & pictures, QED Publishing, Quarto Children’s Books and Small World Creations – offers customers an integrated and comprehensive 0-10+ range, created by a dynamic team with unique expertise and a focus on innovative, interactive formats.
Key responsibilities include:
- Commissioning and briefing authors
- Project managing titles from initial idea to finished book
- Setting and managing schedules
- Writing sales material and back cover copy
- Coordinating out-of-house editorial processes such as proof-reading, Americanizing and indexing
- Working closely with design and production departments to ensure titles publish on time and to the highest standard possible
- Coming up with new book ideas to contribute at creative meetings
Experience/skills required:
- At least two years’ in-house book publishing experience, preferably with a children’s book publisher
- A proven interest in children’s book publishing
- Excellent copy-editing and proof-reading skills
- Experience of working with freelance editors and packagers
- The ability to work confidently in InDesign
- Knowledge and experience of co-edition publishing
- Great organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively
