I\u2019m responsible for developing our picture story books and chapter fiction which means I\u2019m always on the lookout for new writing and illustrating talent, as well as new design and illustration trends. I commission, edit and proofread, working alongside our in-house designers, freelance designers and agencies to complete each book from concept to the production of bound copies.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"697\" data-end=\"741\"><strong data-start=\"697\" data-end=\"739\">What do you like best about being a project editor?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"743\" data-end=\"1207\">I\u2019m lucky to be working across a range of children\u2019s fiction. The challenge of creating \u201cagain, again\u201d illustrated picture story books for the very young, through to chapter fiction that may launch a child\u2019s first ever solo-reading adventure, is exciting. I\u2019m passionate about children\u2019s literacy. I love working with established authors and finding new voices, too. I get a real buzz from creative teamwork\u2014making something completely new and engaging together.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1209\" data-end=\"1265\"><strong data-start=\"1209\" data-end=\"1263\">Which new titles are you working on at the moment?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1267\" data-end=\"1730\">The new title in our pulse-pounding animal fantasy series, <em data-start=\"1326\" data-end=\"1337\">Survivors<\/em>, is on my desk. Aimed at children aged eight and up, <em data-start=\"1391\" data-end=\"1407\">Darkness Falls<\/em> is the next canine-themed instalment about dog packs that learn to survive and thrive in a world without human masters. Willow Tree is a new imprint which launched this year to coincide with the company\u2019s 20th anniversary, so it\u2019s exciting to be publishing these books by <em data-start=\"1680\" data-end=\"1696\">New York Times<\/em> bestselling author Erin Hunter.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1732\" data-end=\"1776\"><strong data-start=\"1732\" data-end=\"1774\">What skills do you need to be a project editor?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1778\" data-end=\"2107\">As project editor, I need to be a creative thinker who is able to help turn a good idea into a great book. I also need to be flexible because, in true creative fashion, ideas and plans always develop along the way. Excellent teamwork is must, and an eye for detail is essential for the nitty-gritty of editing and proofreading.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2109\" data-end=\"2183\"><strong data-start=\"2109\" data-end=\"2181\">What advice would you give to those looking to work in the industry?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2185\" data-end=\"2569\">If you\u2019re looking to get into children\u2019s publishing, immerse yourself in children\u2019s books no matter what role you\u2019re looking for.
