Academic Sales Manager

A leading independent publisher and distributor of specialist trade non-fiction and academic books has an exciting opportunity for an Academic Sales Manager to join their team. You will have excellent knowledge of the academic book market and bring with you a wealth of experience in maximising the opportunities within it. This role is based in Oxford.

Key duties:

•           Increase the sales of front & backlist published and distributed lists in exciting new markets
•           Interpret product and channel sales data, monitoring and improving on sales reports
•           Manage the performance of third-party agents through data analysis
•           Oversee the sector budget for expenditure and revenue in line with company strategy
•           Remain informed and report on current and emerging market factors which may influence sales
•           Handle all customer correspondence, from end users to agents and key accounts
•           Negotiate with all stakeholders on promotions, discounts, and terms
•           Collaborate with internal departments, providing input on publishing lists, marketing, data, etc.
•           Represent the company at industry book fairs and events

Experience / skills required:

•           Previous sales experience in a publishing environment, ideally within academic book publishing
•           A creative, meticulous and hands-on approach to lead generation and new business development
•           Knowledge and experience of the trade non-fiction book market is desirable
•           Proven key account management experience in academic or specialist trade publishing
•           Demonstrable ability to communicate and negotiate with contacts and stakeholders at all levels
•           Confidence in analysing, interpreting and reporting on budgetary and financial data
