Area Sales Manager - Germany

We have an exciting opportunity for an Area Sales Manager to join the Journals team of a leading global publisher of high quality, peer reviewed books and journals. This is a fantastic opportunity for a successful sales manager looking for a new challenge in a role that combines effective team management whilst retaining a core focus on sales activities in the D-A-CH Region. The role will be based in the company’s Berlin office in Germany, but can be worked on a remote basis, with visits to the Berlin office as required.

Reporting to the Head of Sales, you will manage a team of Sales Execs/Associates as well as contributing to department strategy. You will also be responsible for achieving your annual territory sales targets through sustainable and consultative account management. You will lead high-level negotiations in the region and will build innovative & commercially significant partnerships to grow market share. We estimate that 30-40% of your time will be spent traveling across the European market.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

• Managing, guiding and mentoring a team of 2-3 sales and support executives

• Planning, scheduling and carrying out regular sales visits to customers

• Reporting periodically to the Head of Sales on sales progress

• Collecting and disseminating market, competitor, and customer feedback, including passing on leads

Other responsibilities will include contributing to sales meetings and events, acting as liaison with Product Development in support of solution-specific sales that respond to customer needs and representing the company externally as necessary.

Your fluent German and English language skills are essential in this position and experience of the German Academic Publishing market will be a distinct advantage.

Candidates must have previous demonstrable experience of working within the academic publishing sector in addition to experience of team management. With excellent negotiation and presentation skills; strong decision-making and analytical skills, you will have good knowledge of the academic publishing sector and a good understanding of the open research landscape. Able to work independently, you will also know when you need to delegate tasks to your team. The company offers an excellent salary, bonus and benefits package to the successful candidate.
