Assistant Commissioning Editor - Medical/Healthcare Journals - 6 Month Contract

Due to promotion a highly successful, global publisher of healthcare/medical journals is looking to recruit 2 ambitious and motivated individuals to join their Medical and Healthcare journals team as an Assistant Commissioning Editor. This role is a fabulous way to develop your career in healthcare publishing and learn the commissioning process. As an Assistant Commissioning Editor you will take charge of a variety of general tasks, including the processing of papers for a variety of journals and act as main of contact for numerous colleges, authors and other departments.

We are looking for a candidate with enthusiasm, motivation and a real interest in learning new publishing and business skills.

Some of the key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing support and assisting in the management and development of one of their flagship collection of journals as well as the wider medicine team.
  • Preparing and passing manuscripts for production
  • Being the main point of contact for authors and internal colleagues
  • Attending and organising internal/external meetings
  • Soliciting high-quality relevant content where needed, to support the commissioning team
  • Covering editorial work for the commissioning editors as instructed by senior editor

This is a golden opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated self-starter looking to develop their career in healthcare and medical publishing.  The successful person will be educated to degree level with a biomedical/life science degree (essential) and able to demonstrate an interest in scientific/medical or healthcare publishing. You will possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal; able to work as part of a team and have excellent time management skills. You will be highly organised with the ability to prioritise your work and work to strict deadlines.

This would be an excellent position for someone who is looking for their first role in medical/healthcare publishing.
