Assistant Editor

We are working on a lovely new Assistant Editor vacancy with the Law imprint of a prestigious academic publisher in Oxford. Reporting into the Senior Commissioning Editor, this role will be supporting the commissioning process according to the department's signing targets, and working closely with the authors and the other Editors.

They offer hybrid working with 2 days a week in the office, and some incredible benefits!

Responsibilities

  • Keeping the publishing programme on schedule, liaising with the authors and updating the publishing plan
  • Setting up new titles on the system, and tracking any changes in line with publication dates
  • Commissioning new titles and editions, and supporting senior members in the team achieving their commissioning targets
  • Preparing manuscripts to go to production
  • Coordinating the peer review process for assigned titles
  • Drafting and sending out contracts for new projects
  • Writing copy for cover briefs, design and marketing
  • Overseeing the work of editorial assistants and providing mentorship as you see fit

This role will allow you to develop your commercial acumen and learn the ropes of book commissioning. We are looking for someone that wants to step up from an Editorial Assistant role or similar, and who possesses excellent writing and communication skills, good author management, and time management. You don't need to have a legal background, though an interest in academic books and resources would be a strong advantage.

For a full description of the role, please send your CV with a brief paragraph outlining your relevant skills.

Closing Date: Early applications may be prioritised.
