Assistant Editor

Do you have some experience in publishing and would like to start an editorial career in Academic Publishing? Would you like to join a leading Professional body based in central London as an Assistant Editor? This is an exciting opportunity to coordinate an editorial office, working on their books list and managing the peer review process. This full time permanent role can be based remotely in the UK with occasional travel to their London office (ie once or twice a month). 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Manage the peer-review process, checking new submissions and monitoring progress on manuscripts
  • Act as main point of contact for author and editorial panels
  • Preparing and issuing contracts and maintain records for budget, schedule and royalty payments
  • Ensure publications meet agreed schedule and quality standards, liaising with internal colleagues
  • Evaluate manuscripts prior to acceptance and check and approve final proofs before publication.

What you’ll have:

  • Some experience/or an intern in academic/professional publishing. Ideally you will be an editorial assistant looking for a step up.
  • Excellent organisation skills with a flexible approach and the ability meet tight deadlines supporting commissioning editors
  • Strong communication skills with excellent oral and written English and a great eye for detail
  • Knowledge of editorial processes highly advantageous
