Assistant Editor - Academic Books

We are looking for a motivated and switched on Assistant Editor to join the team of this highly successful global publisher of academic books.  This is an ideal role for someone who may be an experienced editorial assistant looking for the next step or an assistant editor looking to develop and broaden their editorial skills. The role will suit a motivated individual with an excellent eye for detail, looking to develop their editorial skills.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Editorial checks on manuscripts and indexes
  • Liaising with authors and volume editors on their manuscripts
  • Recruiting and managing freelances as required
  • Supporting the Production Manager on the print and eBook Production process
  • Liaising with in-house editors and the production manager
  • Managing your workload efficiently and on time

This is an ideal position for someone who has some demonstrable experience in an editorial role and a knowledge of the production process, and who is now looking to develop their editorial skills and experience within academic publishing.

The successful person will have:

  • Proven experience within an editorial environment, ideally from an academic or educational  publishing background
  • Experience of copy-editing/proof reading
  • An excellent command of the English language
  • Strong IT skills
  • Excellent team-working skills
  • Great organisation and communication skills
