Assistant Editor / Editor (Education)

We have a new rewarding opportunity of an Assistant Editor or Editor (depending on experience) with a leading book publisher to work on their prestigious children's education portfolio. This position will be responsible for managing titles from commission to publication, through the editorial process and for assisting the Commissioning team and Editors as required. The role is full-time, permanent and offers a competitive salary, excellent benefits and hybrid working (2 days a week in the company's central London office).

As Assistant Editor / Editor you will have the opportunity to project manage titles across a broad range of educational products, from teaching resources and professional development books to illustrated fiction, children's poetry, and home learning books. Responsibilities will include (amongst others):

  • Guiding individual titles through the editorial process
  • Organising and assisting with the writing of AIs (advance information sheets), catalogue copy and book fair materials
  • Development editing and copyediting new manuscripts independently, as well as alongside project editor/commissioning editor
  • Writing back cover copy
  • Supporting desk editors and commissioning editors
  • Liaising with sales, production, design, marketing and editors to ensure that sales materials are produced on time
  • Proofreading and liaising with authors

The ideal candidate will have some proven editorial experience in book publishing, along side an interest in, or knowledge of, the Education space, and thus the ability to understand teacher and learner needs. Good prioritisation and organisation skills, alongside excellent attention to detail and communication skills, are all a must.
