Assistant Editor (Fiction), Michael Joseph

Do you love spotting brilliant stories, and helping them reach the widest possible audience? Do you enjoy working with authors to help them fulfil their potential? Do you have the attention to detail to make sure everything arrives on time?

We have a brilliant opportunity for two Assistant Editors to join the expanding Fiction team at Michael Joseph.

Reporting to one of our Publishers, you would be a crucial part of a team that publishes some of the world’s biggest fiction brands alongside many of the most exciting and bestselling debut novels. You’d be joining a list that featured regular Sunday Times bestsellers and Richard and Judy selections, working with authors such as Alex North, Samantha Downing, Mary Beth Keane, Fredrik Backman, Lauren Beukes and Conn Iggulden.

As Assistant Editor, you’d be responsible for author care, structural and line edits on some projects, writing copy and briefing covers, as well as general administrative assistance on the list. As well as having proven experience in these areas and evidence of exceptional attention to detail, you will have a passion for great storytelling, with an awareness of the market and an eye for new opportunities.

You'll be innovative in your thinking and be able to communicate confidently with colleagues from all departments. You don’t need to have worked on a similar list if you can demonstrate your experience of and passion for this area. There will be multiple opportunities for taking on more responsibility as you develop.

Michael Joseph is the leading commercial fiction and non-fiction imprint of Penguin Books. Michael Joseph specialises in women’s fiction, crime, thrillers, cookery, memoirs and lifestyle books. Many of our authors are now, or soon will be, household names in the UK and around the world. We publish the very best authors in each field and bring their books to the widest possible audience. As well as the authors mentioned above, our list includes many of the very biggest names in UK publishing, from Jojo Moyes and Liane Moriarty to Jamie Oliver and the Ladybirds for Grown-Ups.

If this sounds like you then please apply with your CV and Cover Letter by midnight on Thursday 22nd August 2019.
