Associate Commissioning Editor

Are you looking to utilise your editorial skills in a book commissioning role? We're working on a fantastic new Commissioning role for a scientific society publisher, which will focus on commissioning new top-quality academic books. They are based in Bath, although they can consider hybrid working arrangements for this position, and they are open to consider candidates at different levels of experience, for either an Associate Commissioning Editor or a Commissioning Editor role.

In this role, you will be:

  • Commissioning new book titles in line with publishing targets, as guided by the Head of Editorial Development
  • Overseeing peer-review and book proposal processes, collaborating with editorial boards and committees
  • Providing clear instructions and schedules for authors, editors, reviewers and other collaborators
  • Attending relevant conferences and events to meet new collaborators and identify new potential commissioning opportunities
  • Contributing to shaping and developing the books programme

Whether you're taking your first steps into a commissioning role, or moving up on the career ladder to take on more commissioning responsibilities, we will be looking for strong editorial skills, ability to coordinate multiple projects and working to different deadlines, and knowledge of the academic/research publishing sector. You should be able to work closely with authors and academics, and build successful relationships with key figures in the industry, and bring a commercial mindset to this lovely commissioning role.

For a full description of the role, please send your CV with a brief paragraph outlining your relevant skills.

Closing Date: Early applications may be prioritised.
