Fiction Editor, Atlantic and Corvus

Are you an editor who reads widely across the fiction spectrum, from literary prize-winners to page-turning genre novels? Do you combine immaculate editorial taste and standards with a sharp commercial eye? Are you hungry to commission your own titles? Are you a passionate advocate of your authors, with a curiosity about what makes readers sit up and take notice?

If so, we’d love to hear from you.

An opportunity has arisen within award-winning independent publisher Atlantic Books to join the fiction team as Editor. For the right candidate, this role offers the chance to work across both of our two fiction imprints: Atlantic Fiction – the home of prizewinning, bold, global literary writers including Irish Writer of the year Colin Walsh, Booker-nominee Martin MacInnes and Granta Best Young British Novelist Camilla Grudova – and Corvus, our popular fiction imprint dedicated to enthralling and propulsive storytelling from authors at the top of their game, including bestsellers Ruth Hogan and Elizabeth Buchan, fan favourites Helen Hoang and Emma Curtis and up-and-coming talents Alice Bell and Becky Hunter.

Weighted towards the Atlantic imprint, this role will see you looking after a stable of authors as well as having the opportunity to commission new titles for each list.

Your main areas of responsibility will include: supporting the publishing directors; desk-editing and structurally editing existing titles; seeing titles through every stage of the production process; briefing covers and writing top-tier copy with precision, imagination and ambition; networking and developing relationships with authors and agents; and working with our sales, marketing and publicity colleagues on promotional plans and strategies.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to commission, initially, around 4 books per year, both via agent submissions and through our proactive Workshop programme, where we create sharply conceptualised, genre-inflected novels from scratch in collaboration with professional writers, such as Tony Santorella’s Bored Gay Werewolf and Priya Guns’ Your Driver is Waiting.
