Press Officer (Maternity Cover – part-time)
Barrington Stoke is looking for a Press Officer to join our award-winning children’s publishing company. The role will require an experienced, enthusiastic and well-organised person, who will relish the opportunity to work in a small and collaborative team and with some of the biggest children’s authors and illustrators in the business. We are flexible on hours, with a minimum of 3 days per week, preferably based at our Edinburgh offices but other UK locations will be considered.
Salary: From £30,000 pro rata, dependent on experience

The Candidate’s Profile
We are looking for a talented individual with passion and enthusiasm for children’s books, self-motivated, with initiative to problem solve, communicate well and be a team player. You will have a flair for writing great copy and press releases. You must also demonstrate experience of offering exceptional author care, excellent interpersonal skills, a real desire to engage and inspire the widest possible audience as well as an understanding of the key role PR can have in driving book sales. A minimum of 2 years’ experience of working in a publicity team or in the children’s book industry as a whole, is required. We are keen to hear from the widest range of candidates and we are open to different types of experience and backgrounds.
Job Summary
Responsible for handling all author and company PR and events
Managing all title campaigns, working to a budget as agreed with the Sales and Marketing Director
With the Sales and Marketing Director, building relations with key company stakeholders
Managing all awards submissions and related administration
Creating and distributing press updates
Representing Barrington Stoke at key events
Editorial input – feeding in to the Editorial and Design team
The successful candidate will have the right to live and work in the UK. We envisage this as a 3-day-a-week job but are willing to negotiate working hours and patterns with the right person for the job.
