Content Editor, Bloomsbury Professional (12 Month Mat Cover)

Bloomsbury Professional publish high quality books and digital products for lawyers, tax practitioners, accountants and business professionals in Ireland and the UK.

The role of Content Editor in our Irish office is key to the continued success of Bloomsbury Professional as both a digital and hard-copy publisher. This role will involve curating and compiling content for our online platform Bloomsbury Professional Online and, where appropriate, for publication in hard-copy and ebook formats.

The Content Editor reports to the General Manager and Head of Publishing (Ireland) and is a key contributor to the wider Professional team in Ireland the UK.

The role

  • Procuring content for new and existing digital and hard copy products
    • Strategic commissioning for new editions and annual titles
    • Identification of gaps in Bloomsbury’s product portfolio
    • Identification of suitable authors and contributors and liaison with them to ensure the supply of appropriate, high-quality content
    • General content development and administration of those titles
  • Producing summaries of third-party content for digital subscribers
    • Monitoring legal developments in a number of practice areas and curating and editing online newsletters to be emailed to subscribers/trialists
    • Project managing and editing online briefings for particular online services
  • Day-to-day management of specific projects
    • Commissioning and/or writing articles and case notes for the Irish market
    • Commissioning of ongoing updates necessary to make the product a success
    • Working closely with the product management team as well as sales and marketing to ensure customer needs are met by the services/products
  • Tracking key legal and tax developments
  • Setting up products in Biblio, as necessary
  • Generating contracts relating to new editions and new products
  • Creating and managing schedules with clear deadlines and tracking to ensure timely submissions and updates of new editions, blogs, newsletters and briefings
  • Editorial budget tracking and reporting as needed
  • Keeping stakeholders informed of progress on various projects
  • Being aware of customer needs and expectations and making sure new products offer excellent user experience through outreach to end users and conference attendance
  • Maintaining excellent editorial quality and continuity across all products that is always in keeping with our House Style Guide
  • Working alongside the BPrO Product Management team to investigate the feasibility of product enhancements, especially in relation to content-related matters

Knowledge, skills and experience 

  • Editorial experience, preferably in commissioning
  • Familiarity with digital media
  • Excellent language skills
  • Knowledge of the legal profession and market
  • Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to work effectively with other departments within the business and with authors
  • A legal and/or editorial/journalistic professional qualification would be preferable

Additional information

The role is a full-time, temporary (12 months maternity cover) position.

Salary Range: €45-50K (Euros)

The role will be fully home based, with occasional meetings in Dublin.
