Editorial Director, Non-Fiction, Editorial, Adult

As a crucial member of Bloomsbury Trade’s new non-fiction team, the successful candidate will have demonstrated successful publishing across a range of fascinating books. The candidate will be able to seek out new talent directly and through agents, build relationships with authors and key people in the industry, and create new opportunities for growth across history, science, memoir, current affairs and politics and popular culture and take us into commissioning spaces we currently do not explore. You will be able to identify what is special about an author and envision a plan for how to publish them with creativity, ambition and attention to detail. Author care is the heart of our business, as is an ability to identify what is truly interesting. The successful candidate will enjoy inspiring members of other teams and collaborating with them on reaching readers.

Our writers provide a window through which to see the world. Bloomsbury Trade is home to dozens of prize-winning bestsellers, including Peter Frankopan, Reni Eddo-Lodge, William Dalrymple, Lisa Taddeo, Rutger Bregman, Amia Srinivasan, Johann Hari, William Feaver, Orlando Figes, Lara Maiklem and Wendy Mitchell. Our heritage is as rich as our future.

This is a time of growth for our division, and we are looking for a talented and ambitious Editorial Director or Senior Commissioning Editor (depending experience) to join our expanding team. Your experience is less important than your non-fiction vision and your desire to be part of a successful growing team.

Knowledge, skills and experience

The ability to communicate confidently with a network of authors, agents and media is essential, as is the ability to keep colleagues on side and work effectively under pressure while keeping to schedule. You will be scrupulous and dynamic, have a proven ability to develop ideas into commercially successful projects and enjoy working as part of an ambitious, forward-thinking, mutually-respectful team.

This is the perfect opportunity for someone in publishing looking to take the next step in their career. We welcome candidates from a wide-variety of professional experience and backgrounds and could hire at Senior Commissioning Editor, depending on experience.
