Head of Publicity, Adult Consumer Marketing and Publicity

We have an opportunity to join our expanding team at a time of exciting growth at Bloomsbury.

We are looking for an ambitious, creative and talented Head of Publicity to lead innovative, impactful and strategic media and events campaigns. You will be joining a collaborative and supportive Publicity team, reporting into the Publicity Director and with responsibility of your own direct reports. You may also oversee, advise and collaborate on other publicist’s campaigns and be a role model for junior team members.

With a background in the publishing, arts or media industries, you will have experience working across a variety of campaigns with a particular emphasis of delivering excellence in non-fiction. You will be able to offer expertise on delivering publicity campaigns and publishing strategy on non-fiction, including ground breaking big ideas, history, science, politics and culture; as well as literary fiction, poetry, commercial fiction, cookery and more.

As well as creating multi-platform campaigns that break out debut talent, build bestselling names to new heights or shape the cultural agenda, you will contribute to the publishing lists’ strategic priorities and work closely across all departments and in particular with editorial, sales and marketing colleagues. You will be adept at forging and maintaining excellent relationships with high-profile and influential stakeholders and have an in-depth understanding of, and active interest in the ever-evolving media landscape and the wider publishing industry and creative sectors, and an awareness of the campaigns that deliver profile and sales. 

The role

  • Deliver best-in-class campaigns for Bloomsbury’s most high-profile authors, illustrators and brands, and launching the careers of others; work across all formats (hardback, eBook and audio)
  • Work with the Publicity Director on areas of focus for the team and feed into strategy and vision for the adult trade lists, including acquisition feedback, pitch for new authors and positioning of new titles
  • Support a culture of collaboration, feeding ideas into the wider company and being a great spokesperson for the Publicity team; liaise with the global publicity and marketing teams to ensure that Bloomsbury’s titles are promoted internationally whenever possible.
  • Manage a team to deliver successful and effective campaigns for their allocated titles, generating high-profile and wide-ranging coverage; encourage ambition and creativity in their campaign work
  • Coach reports effectively, developing them as publicists, help manage workloads and ensure communication that goes out from the PR team is of the highest standard; run appraisals and seek out opportunities for your reports
  • Keep D, E & I practises at the heart of what you do, communicating and implementing company policy with the team and strive for positive change within the industry
  • Lead, guide and enable the team in communications with external and internal stakeholders; offer expertise on handling sensitive and/or confidential projects, as well as be the best representative for our lists and the company

The role is a full-time permanent position

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred).  Allocated office days for this role are: Monday and Tuesday
