Production Controller, Children's Division

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced production controller to join our Children’s team, which publishes a range of fiction, non-fiction, picture book and novelty titles.

The Role

Key tasks will include project costing, preparing titles for print and digital editions, and print buying.  You will work closely with our in-house Editorial, Design, and Sales and Marketing departments, and with external suppliers (onshore and offshore) to ensure that all projects are produced to tight schedules, high quality standards and within controlled budgets. This role works mainly on our Children’s Education list.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • a minimum of three years’ relevant experience, mono and colour, in Children’s publishing (print purchasing essential)
  • a detailed knowledge of the production life cycle, from delivery of raw MS to print purchasing and beyond
  • excellent organisational and time-management skills
  • a keen eye for detail (copy-editing and proof-reading skills are desirable) and a good head for numbers
  • IT skills (knowledge of Office is essential and familiarity with Adobe products and Biblio 3 desirable)
  • knowledge of XML-first workflows (desirable but not essential)

The role is a full-time permanent position and is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP however, as all Bloomsbury employees are currently working from home, this role will also be based from home until our offices reopen on a mandatory working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred).
