Publishing Systems Mananger, Business Systems

Publishing Systems Manager with experience of trade or academic publishing sought for a global publisher based in London and Oxford.

This role reports to the Head of Business Systems within the Group Technology division. This team aims to provide Bloomsbury’s content creators, commissioners and marketers with the best possible tools and support.

The Publishing Systems Manager is at the heart of our drive to promote the highest possible level of staff confidence in their use of publishing systems; thereby ensuring that our product data is as comprehensively and accurately represented as possible in both downstream applications (financial, inventory, CRM etc systems) and the trade/institutional data supply chains.

The role

Overarching responsibility for the smooth day to day operation and evolution of our core sales and production database (the Biblio3 system) and adjacent marketing systems.

Meeting regularly with system users and senior managers across the company to ensure that the company’s publishing systems are meeting the commercial and reputational objectives of the business; as well as keeping pace with emerging requirements/standards within the publishing sector.

Managing relationships with software suppliers and consultants involved in the maintenance and development of our systems.

Working closely with the technical teams responsible for the operational integrity of the publishing systems and their efficient integration with finance, CRM and other systems.

Working closely with the company’s Marketing, Metadata, Project Management, Sales and Operations teams – as well as its digital publishing specialists and e-commerce teams – on specific initiatives and to generally support excellence and efficiency in all of these functions.

Providing leadership and guidance to the Publishing Systems staff.

Ensuring that high quality training on publishing systems is provided to all employees on a timely basis.

Knowledge, skills and experience 

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic publishing professional who is…

  • conversant in publishing technology, fluent in publishing processes and workflows
  • happy to lead from the front
  • clear and confident in their communication with staff at all levels of the business
  • highly organised, with strong attention to detail
  • eager to involve themselves with all aspects of the company’s operations
  • technically versatile, with good MS Windows skills (especially Excel)
  • driven to deliver projects on time and within budget

Additional information

The role is a full-time, permanent position

The role may be based at our London office (50 Bedford Square, WC1B 3DP) or at our Oxford office (Kemp House, Chawley Park, Cumnor Hill, OX2 9PH), on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred).  Allocated office days for this role are Wednesday and Thursday.
