International Sales Manager, Asia and North America

General Summary

We are looking for a driven, self-motivated and adaptable sales professional to manage international sales in Asia (excluding India) and North America across our adult and children’s trade imprints. The successful applicant will be able to work both independently and as part of a team, be highly organised and possess excellent negotiation and presentation skills.

Key responsibilities

  • Delivering the sales budget for trade imprints in Asia and North America (including Caribbean)
  • Selling new titles but also maintaining and strategising on backlist sales in these territories
  • Liaising with rights and editorial teams to select titles for North American distribution, managing the submission process to our distribution partner and working with them to maximise sales
  • Work with the internal brand team and overseeing schedule and sales of Wilbur Smith and Lynda La Plante in to the US and Canada via our third party distributor
  • Managing sales agent in China. Ensuring they have relevant sales material, tracking their sales, and helping them to build special print-runs.
  • Maximising drop-shipment orders for new titles and reprints from customers in Asia.
  • Liaising with special sales and Production team to maximise orders for box-sets, packs and special editions.
  • Regularly monitoring new title dues and tracking customer sales performance.
  • Ensuring all customers receive regular new title updates, sales materials and catalogues, and keeping customers informed of changes to the publishing programme.
  • Managing trading terms in conjunction with the Head of International Sales
  • Overseeing relationships with GBS for credit control and distribution
  • Providing regular market feedback and title feedback into the acquisition process
  • Organising promotional and marketing activity in conjunction with international sales colleagues and our group PR and marketing teams, including negotiating any catalogue spend.
  • Preparing customer and market focused sales material, e.g. presentations and sales sheets
  • Attendance at international bookfairs, customer sales conferences and other trade events
  • Liaising with the international sales assistant to ensure that follow-up is undertaken promptly, such as proof and samples mailings
  • Preparing customer sales reports
  • Submitting travel plans and planning and booking all travel. Approximately 8-12 weeks’ per year travel is envisaged.
  • Attending adult non-fiction and children’s illustrated meetings and providing feedback and input from/to international colleagues.
  • Other duties may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ international sales experience including some key account management
  • Knowledge and experience of selling in Asian or American markets
  • Trade publishing experience – ideally in both adult and children’s books
  • A keen reader
  • Excellent Microsoft Office (Teams, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook) skills are essential
  • Biblio experience desirable
  • Seeview, VISTA, SAP Business Objects, Power BI experience is desirable.
