Publicist/Publicity Manager

Salary: circa £31,000-£36,000 p.a., depending on experience

Full-time/Part-time: Full-time

Location: Flexible, with occasional days required in our London office

Start date: June/July 2022

Deadline for applications: 20/05/2022

Are you a forward-thinking publicist with a passion for commercial fiction, looking to work for an ambitious company? Can you help us celebrate and promote our thriving roster of authors, who cover everything from romance and saga to crime and thrillers?

Canelo began as a digital publisher, but in recent years we have also become one of the most exciting and acclaimed new paperback publishers in the UK. We were shortlisted for Independent Publisher of the Year at the year at The British Book Awards in 2021 and 2022, and launched a hardback list this year. The chosen candidate will play a large part in developing and growing a function that will help take our hugely promising and frequently bestselling list to the next level.

Working closely with the sales and marketing team, you will drive publicity across the full breadth of our list, implementing title, series and imprint campaigns. You will secure reviews, interviews, features and more, oversee award submissions, festivals and events appearances, and liaise with online communities. You will envisage creative ways for us to place our books into the hands of readers, reviewers and influencers, to expand our regional, national and international visibility, and help us build new audiences and relationships. This is an opportunity to make a real impact with some incredibly talented and hard-working authors, and to secure for them the recognition and coverage they richly deserve.

We are open about experience and background, but this job would suit someone with passion, enthusiasm, trade know-how, a broad range of contacts, who is digitally and socially engaged, and ideally with experience of producing effective commercial fiction campaigns.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Increasing author prominence, visibility and reach
  • Devising and implementing campaigns in traditional and new media on frontlist publications, as well as select backlist and range titles, targeting prominent reviews and features
  • Building, targeting and engaging our range of contacts
  • Build and maintain great relationships with our growing list of authors
  • Producing press releases, pitches, and any extra creative materials
  • Overseeing submissions and nominations for awards, festival slots, and other events
  • Managing relationships with external partners including bloggers and other suppliers and influencers
  • Providing regular updates on campaigns to ensure excellent author care
