Senior Designer – maternity cover (Edinburgh or London) Fixed term contract for at least 9 months.

Canongate Books is one of the UK’s leading independent publishers and we’re looking for a highly experienced and enthusiastic full-time Senior Designer to join the team in our Edinburgh or London office. Working within the Art Department team, the successful candidate will assist with all aspects of Design. You will have a proven track record of both designing and commissioning covers that challenge the market but appeal to a wide audience. You will be passionate about all areas of design but also look further afield for inspiration as we are always looking to push the idea on how a book should be presented to the world. Canongate has an extremely strong reputation for its design, and we want you to be as ambitious as we are.

Key duties will include:

• Design a varied range of quality covers across non-fiction and fiction
• Commission freelancers and illustrators and enjoy speaking with authors when necessary
• Be comfortable managing your own workload
• Mentoring our Designer
• Play a close supporting role to the Art Director
