Childrens Editor

Are you an experienced and talented editor of children's fiction with a keen market awareness and have a keen eye for identifying commercially successful titles? Our client an award winning trade publisher is looking for a talented individual to take responsibility for a selected list of titles, aiming for commercial success in line with our clients publishing strategy. Reporting to the Editorial Director, this role demands a proactive and creative professional.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing titles from acquisition through to publication and beyond.
  • Reading and reviewing submissions.
  • strong market awareness to select and pitch in editorial and acquisitions meetings.
  • Collaborating closely with agents and authors
  • Running title costings, securing approval on advances, and negotiating deals,
  • Working closely with Managing Editors, Design, and Production to ensure that titles meet their scheduled key dates and budget.
  • Commissioning new works, depending on experience and the needs of the list.

The ideal candidate can brief market-facing covers, assess the commercial value of projects with an understanding of title financial, and create and maintain excellent relations with authors and agents, ensuring we are a destination publisher for top talent. The candidate should be an experienced children's fiction editor with excellent editorial skills and strong knowledge of the fiction market in the UK and internationally have-excellent time-management skills, and ideally, a confident presenter who can effectively sell a project to the wider team.
