Commissioning Editor

An innovative EdTech company focused on the arts is seeking a Commissioning Editor (English Literature and ELA) to conceptualise and develop the educational resources for secondary schools. The role offers great flexibility to be either office based (central London) or remote, alongside other excellent benefits.

As Commissioning Editor for English Literature and ELA you will work closely with the Head of Content to develop the content strategy of the educational resource offering for the English Literature and ELA list at secondary school level. Working closely with key team members and education specialists you will advise on key texts / plays to film and how to approach them, and lead on conceptualising and delivering written resources that maximise the pedagogical value of the filmed texts. Your responsibilities include: to carry out market research and speak to customers to inform resource development; to source, commission, contract, brief and manage writers; to work with the publishing team through the editorial stages; and advocate for ELA/English teachers and students when filming projects are planned.

The ideal Commissioning Editor for English Literature and ELA will have proven educational publishing experience, including commissioning experience as well as a current understanding of the US education market, and the ability to continually update that understanding. Understanding of UK and international school markets would be an advantage. The ability to manage budgets, alongside strong communication and presentation skills will be key.

This is an exciting new role for those passionate about the arts and drama, offering the opportunity to develop a career within a highly successful EdTech organisation, and could be a great next step for someone currently a Senior Development Editor or similar.
