Commissioning Editor
Our client is an international professional membership organisation who publish highly reputable books and academic journals, is now recruiting for a Commissioning Editor to join their team!
Working with the commissioning team, you will be responsible for commissioning, developing, and delivering new books and digital content, making sure all projects are on time, within budget and to agreed targets and specification.
Your authors will be working academics and practitioners and so experience of commissioning professionals and academics would be important to demonstrate.
Key responsibilities for this role will include:
- Researching and commissioning suitable authors and editors
- Facilitating expert panels
- Conducting peer reviews and market testing project proposals
- Presenting business proposals
- Guiding, supporting and maintaining relationships with authors
- Working with marketing and sales colleagues ensuring they are well informed on product ideas.
- Monitoring project budgets from product conception to publication
- Producing financial reports on projects
The successful candidate for this role will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven experience of book commissioning, development, and production processes. Commercial awareness and understanding of good business practice are essential along with the knowledge of appropriate market research techniques. The successful candidate will also need to be able to travel to meet authors and attend events when required.
