Our client, an independent specialist publisher in history, fine arts, travel and design is looking to appoint a Commissioning Editor to join their dynamic team in central London. Reporting to the Publisher, the Commissioning Editor will work on a generalist list consisting of Trade Non-fiction and History titles.
The ideal candidate will commission around twenty new titles per year, evaluate manuscripts, and oversee the publishing process for the projects under their care. Applicants will need previous experience of researching, editing and developing new book projects, approaching potential authors and obtaining book proposals. Those with significant commissioning experience will have an advantage, although candidates with less experience and a passion for history and Non-fiction will also be considered.
Having knowledge and experience of working with PR contacts along with the confidence and ability to promote your titles would be an advantage, but is not a prerequisite. Candidates will enjoy building relationships with authors and colleagues, and possess strong communication and organisation skills. This position offers a rare opportunity to work in an innovative environment for an independent publishing house.
For a full description of the role, please send your CV with a brief paragraph outlining your relevant skills.
Closing Date: Early applications may be prioritised.
