Commissioning Editor

A wonderful new role of Commissioning Editor is up for grabs in the education division of one of the world's largest publishing groups! The role offers an attractive salary and benefits package, alongside hybrid working from one of the company's offices in either London, Sheffield, Newcastle or Edinburgh.

The Commissioning Editor will form part of the creative and commercial drive behind the publishers wide ranging secondary school subject areas, commissioning engaging materials for teachers and students. You will be involved in commissioning print and digital materials, managing a backlist, and working closely with colleagues to build an exciting range of resources and services for teachers and learners. Specifically, working as part of the publishing team you will:

  • Have commissioning responsibility across various titles and market areas
  • Spend time talking with teachers (as well as parents and students)
  • Commission new titles and series based on market needs across print and digital media
  • Develop a deep market knowledge and a key network of contacts
  • Support and develop authors, including providing feedback
  • Actively and creatively manage backlist publishing

The Commissioning Editor will ideally be someone with previous experience commissioning educational content and who is hungry to develop and grow a successful publishing list. You will have worked on educational resources being developed in line with changing curriculum requirements and should have a deep understanding of the issues facing teachers and students.
