Commissioning Editor

A well-known specialist history publisher is looking to appoint a Commissioning Editor to join their small team. The Commissioning Editor will manage and develop the company's Non-fiction lists, managing backlist titles and commissioning commercially viable titles for their frontlist. This role offers an amazing opportunity for a creative individual who is looking at that next step in their career and wants to own their own list.

The company is looking to significantly increase its market share in these sectors and is looking to attract candidates with existing networks of contacts in relevant subject areas.

The Commissioning Editor will identify authors for new projects, preparing proposals for new publishing opportunities, manage schedules and budgets and ensure that titles are produced to a high standard. The Commissioning Editor will work closely with colleagues in editorial, marketing, sales, production and design departments to bring titles to print in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

The successful candidate will have commissioning experience in trade non-fiction, and will ideally have commissioned titles across history, politics, self-help and popular science . Applicants will be required to demonstrate a commercial outlook and previous experience in list management. Strong interpersonal skills are vital as relationship management is a key part of this role. Commercial acumen and the ability to present new titles confidently is essential, as is a sound understanding of the book publishing process within trade publishing.

This role offers hybrid/ remote working and flexibility being based in Gloucestershire.

For a full description of the role, please send your CV with a brief paragraph outlining your relevant skills.

Closing Date: Early applications may be prioritised.
