Commissioning Editor

A wonderful new role of Commissioning Editor is up for grabs in the education division of one of the world's largest publishing groups, based in their central Glasgow office in Scotland. The role offers an attractive salary and benefits package, alongside the chance to make a great impact on the company's overall success.

The Commissioning Editor will form part of the creative and commercial drive behind the company's maths publishing, building engaging ranges of materials for teachers and students in Scotland's primary and secondary schools. You will be involved in commissioning print and digital materials, managing a backlist, and working closely with colleagues to build an even more exciting range of resources and services for teachers and learners. Specifically, working as part of the Glasgow based editorial team you will:

·Drive market research across maths teaching in Scottish schools
·Spend time talking with teachers (as well as parents and students)
·Commission new titles and series based on market needs across print and digital media
·Actively manage the backlist of the maths publishing product portfolio

The Commissioning Editor will ideally be someone with previous experience commissioning educational content and who is hungry to develop and grow a successful maths publishing list. You will have worked on educational resources being developed in line with changing curriculum requirements. You should have a deep understanding of the issues facing teachers, students and parents. Some mathematical understanding and an empathy with the needs of maths teachers and learners will be an advantage. This is a rare opportunity to work on a high-profile, dynamic and new part of the business, working as part of a committed team in a creative and enterprising environment, and offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
