Commissioning Editor
Are you a Commissioning Editor with experience commissioning illustrated and mono books on spirituality, health and wellbeing and related topics? A leading mind, body and spirit publisher is looking for a creative Commissioning Editor to join their team with an ambition to publish innovative and commercially successful books in this fast-growing sector. This is a permanent role based in London.
Commissioning Editor Key duties:
- Commission books and find new talent
- Develop project ideas, pitch new project proposals and identify reuse projects from the backlist
- Create and develop content including briefing authors, covers and design and editing and flatplanning
- Liaise with authors throughout all stages of the process
- Write sales copy, P&Ls and negotiate contracts with agents and authors
- Work with in-house project managers and the Marketing & Publicity and Sales departments to help identify promotional opportunities
Commissioning Editor Experience / skills required:
- Mind, body and spirit market knowledge with contacts in the field
- Sound editorial skills with the ability to turn an idea into a book
- Track record of commissioning commercially successful books with knowledge of what works well
- Solid communication skills with the ability to work as a team as well as independently
