Commissioning Editor - Books

Are you looking for the next step in your career, possibly to learn the commissioning process? A highly successful and well-known division of a leading, global academic publisher has a fantastic new opportunity for an ambitious individual to join their editorial team, working on a range of mental health books. This is a brand new role which will be responsible for managing and growing areas within their highly successful psychoanalysis books programme, with training.

Within this role you will learn to manage and grow several areas within the psychoanalysis list, working with other editors in the team. You will develop a strong commercial strategy for the list, will grow the book offerings in your key subject areas.

The role will also involve working closely with other colleagues within the list, with other editorial teams, with series editors and book authors, and other departments.  There will also be the opportunity to attend virtual and in-person events, depending on the demand of the list, and may involve some international travel.

To be considered for this exciting opportunity you will need some proven experience in academic publishing within an editorial capacity.  You may be an Editorial Assistant or Assistant Editor looking for a new opportunity to learn about the commissioning process. If you have some commissioning experience in academic publishing, this would be an advantage, but it is not essential.  You will be a self-starter, highly organized and capable of juggling a projects.  It is important that you have the ability to prioritise a demanding workload. A background in Psychoanalysis or Mental Health isn’t necessary but an interest in this area is a distinct advantage.
