Commissioning Editor Children

A leading independent children's book publisher in Central London is looking to appoint a Commissioning Editor to cover parental leave up to 12 months and work on their incredible Fiction list. This role will be managing a great award-winning backlist, and developing the frontlist by identifying market gaps and commissioning new projects.

Key responsibilities of the role:

• Managing titles through publication
• Developing acquisitions and projects proposals to expand the Fiction list
• Being responsible for commercial aspects of projects, including budgeting, costings, and schedules
• Hands-on editorial tasks across a wide variety of formats
• Training junior staff in the editorial team and managing workloads
• Communications skills in building relationships with authors and agents
• Liaising with Sales, Marketing, Production and other internal departments to promote new titles and ensure smooth running of the publishing process

In this role, you will be able to demonstrate initiative, commercial awareness and judgement. The ideal candidate will have the ability to take on full title management, and will have a sound background in developing and commissioning children's books and projects. You will be confident negotiating and preparing contracts and managing.
