Commissioning Editor – Social Sciences FTC 9-12 months

Are you a Commissioning Editor looking for a different type of challenge, or an Editor or Senior Editor looking for the next step into a Commissioning role? A leading, highly successful publisher of books in the humanities subjects is looking to recruit a Commissioning Editor on a fixed-term maternity cover for one of their most successful lists. This role is open to applications at Editor and Senior Editor level. 

Working with a team of three other Editors, this position involves the proactive commissioning of a full range of textbooks, handbooks and research monographs across a range of interdisciplinary topics including climate change and energy.

Key responsibilities will involve:

• commissioning new books both through existing contacts and generating new leads
• managing contracted titles to schedule and to budget
• managing an Editorial Assistant
• liaising with internal and external colleagues to further the success of the list
• representing the list at conferences and other events

The successful person should ideally have experience of commissioning academic books though extensive commissioning experience is not necessarily essential. You will have strong commercial awareness, have an aptitude for highly organised teamwork, a healthy attitude  towards the sharing of projects and ideas and be willing to travel  within the UK and internationally.
