Assistant Editor

This is an exciting new role in our fast-growing independent publishing company. We are looking for someone to work closely with our editorial team to help us continue to publish market-leading children’s fiction, non-fiction and comic books.

We are looking for someone with experience in a children’s editorial environment, who can demonstrate that they have a passion for children’s stories and art, a creative curiosity about what readers love, and a truly outstanding eye for detail!

The responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Providing editorial support to all commissioning editors as required;
  • Project managing books editorially, including managing copy-editing, proof reading, and liaising with the team to ensure successful delivery of covers and production of book proofs and finished copies;
  • Drafting cover copy, catalogue and web copy as required;
  • Proof reading and marking up projects including highly illustrated fiction and comic books, and marketing materials, ensuring a high level of quality and adherence to house style;
  • Joining the team evaluating submissions and where appropriate taking forward discussions with authors and prospective authors;
  • Forming part of a cross-company editorial team with The Phoenix comic, helping develop and deliver books with The Phoenix Comic Books imprint;
  • Inputting data into BiblioSuite and other systems;
  • Providing first class author care using a friendly manner while being clear, concise and accurate;
  • Helping maintain accurate and precise record keeping and electronic filing;
  • Assisting with attending author events and festivals from time to time

You should be proficient with Microsoft Office and demonstrate excellent IT skills.  Experience with Biblio is desirable but not essential as training will be given.

Location: Beaumont St, Oxford

Salary: £27,000 to £29,000
