Operations Executive

David Fickling Books (DFB) is an independent publishing house based in Oxford. We are a fast-growing company, shortlisted in 2023 in the Children’s Publisher of the Year category at both the British Book Awards and the Independent Publishing Awards. We are passionate about publishing fiction, graphic novels, picture books and non-fiction that readers will love, and we pride ourselves on our editorial excellence, our commitment to author care, our close relationships with customers and suppliers, and our attention to every detail in order to make our books the very best they can be. We are looking for someone with the same passion for excellence to join our team and ensure that our systems and procedures help us with all of our goals. This is a wonderful opportunity for the right person, who wants to use their organizational ability and knowledge of publishing operations to make a real contribution as a key member of a small and friendly team.

What the role involves:

  • Manage the central operational systems of DFB, with responsibility for ensuring the smooth running of operations
  • Manage Biblio usage across the team, leading on training, trouble-shooting and implementation of new functionality
  • Organize and coordinate the twice-yearly royalties process, implementing a clear structure and process to ensure all necessary procedures are followed
  • Manage stock control, reprint scheduling, and logistics of distribution issues
  • Manage DFB presence on Amazon including metadata and feed management, and management of the ebook programme

Required experience & skills:

  • Proven experience working in production or operations, preferably in the publishing industry
  • Experience of working with Biblio (essential) and Vista (desirable)
  • Natural problem-solver who enjoys trouble-shooting and finding solutions
  • Highly organized and disciplined individual with a great eye for detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and numerical skills
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Self-motivated but also able to work as part of a team
