Deputy Managing Editor

Our client is an award winning publisher of journals in the biomedical sciences field, and they are looking to hire a new Deputy Managing Editor! This London-based company publishes a number of scientific and medical journals and they are now looking to hire a Deputy Managing Editor to assist the Managing Editor with the leadership of a team of first and final readers for one of their journals.

Reporting into the Managing Editor, you will be responsible for the editorial and production process as well as managing the peer review process, including:

  • Providing editorial and management leadership for a team of first and final readers, evaluating the output and providing feedback
  • Performing first edit of articles and ensure the quality and style is consistent with in-house guidelines
  • Delivering individual meetings with members of the team to discuss progress
  • Providing final decisions on production values for the journal
  • Mentoring and coaching the team to achieve highest quality of product

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • A degree in Biological sciences
  • Editorial and publishing experience on a scientific or Medical journal
  • Peer review process and management
  • Journal production experience
  • Highly organised
  • Good attention to detail
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • People Management
