Desk Editor, Educational (FTC)

A london based educational publisher is looking for a Desk editor to ensure the timely publication of a range of high-quality educational resources, (Maths, Science and English). This role is to start as soon as possible until the end of December 2017. This role is also available at a more senior level depending on experience. 

Key duties:

  • Select, brief and manage appropriate freelancers (e.g. copy editors, proof readers, indexers)
  • Brief the Design department on new text designs and/or additional styles for existing designs
  • Prepare illustration briefs, check artworks, make photo selections and size images
  • Check proofs and ebook files; liaise with authors during proof stages and collate their corrections; monitor accuracy and quality of all elements
  • Monitor progress against schedule, in liaison with Production, and adhere to deadlines
  • Control and monitor spending against project budget
  • Clear copyright permissions and ensure copyright holders are acknowledged
  • Prepare, input and test data for digital production using in-house systems 
  • Attend meetings and carry out administrative tasks in relation to allocated projects

Experience / skills required:

  • Work experience as an Editorial Assistant at or in a comparable role elsewhere (essential)/ Experience managing a project managing a publishing project
  • Strong project and people management skills
  • Excellent editorial skills, copyediting  and proofreading and experience with copyright issues
