Desk Editor, French

The education division of a global publisher is seeking a Desk Editor to work in their French language-learning magazines team, based in their central London office. The main remit of the Desk Editor, French, will be to write / edit one of the Secondary level French magazines, and ensure that all the digital components that support the Secondary French magazines website are published within schedule and to budget. Responsibilities include:
- Write and edit magazine(s)
- Map out contents for magazine as part of annual planning process
- Attend table of contents meetings
- Attend and contribute to art brief
- Audio (find actors, organise studio dates, payment etc.)
- Photoshoots - where relevant (find & organise actors, props, locations)
- Manage freelance supply of teachers notes, associated with the pages
- Administration (invoices from translators, artists, students letters, competitions)
- Commission any translation work required
The Desk Editor will be responsible for keeping abreast of developments in the French language learning market at a Secondary school level, and latest trends in youth culture and new media internationally to ensure that the digital components remain topical and motivating to teenage users.
The successful Desk Editor will have native level French language skills (spoken and written), and ideally have some editing and editorial experience. Knowledge of HTML would be useful but is not essential. You will need to be a highly organised self-motivator who also enjoys working as part of a creative team, possess excellent communication skills, and work with exceptional attention to detail. Sound computer and research skills with good problem solving abilities, to always keep projects on time and to schedule, would be useful. A background of teaching French to Secondary level students would be very beneficial.
