Development Editor - Educational

 

We are currently recruiting for a Development Editor to work for an exciting company that specialises in delivering an end-to-end service, for both print and digital areas of publishing. The company’s team of experienced publishing professionals support publishing companies with market analysis and research at concept or commissioning stage, to offering expert content development and author management, to providing the more typical packager service for editorial, production and project management requirements.  Based in lovely surroundings in the heart of Essex, they are now looking to recruit an experienced Development Editor.  This role also offers the opportunity to work from home 2 days a week.

Role Purpose:

This role will act as Development Editor and oversee freelance development work on your own remit of project work for clients, delivering high levels of client satisfaction to agreed criteria, including editorial quality, timeliness and ability to meet budget.

Core duties:

 • Working closely with the associate team and freelance network, to manage and oversee a remit of development projects for clients, ensuring quality, schedule and budget requirements are met to the best of your ability for each and every project and piece of work.

 • Acting as Development Editor on a limited number of projects, working closely with authors and/or other stakeholders, delivering all required development editor tasks and maintaining all project documentation.

 • Liaising with the associate team and freelance network to allocate and brief development editorial services, including sourcing, commissioning and overseeing freelancers and quality assuring their work.

• Attending client project meetings as required, via video or telephone conference or, occasionally, on-site at the current office or client locations.

Required skills and experience:

Essential:

• Minimum of 2 years’ publishing experience, some of which must include working on educational content.

• Proven expertise in development editorial work and a confident understanding of what ‘good’ looks like for a range of stages in the content development process.

 Ideal:

• Previous experience of working with freelancers, including creating briefs and quality assuring their work.

• Comfortable with print and digital formats.

 • Previous experience both in-house and as a freelance supplier.
