Development Editor - Medical Publishing

A British Medical Association award winning STM publisher of pocket books, student textbooks, revision guides, and clinical manuals in Medicine and Dentistry is looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Development Editor to join their busy editorial team. You will benefit from working on a remote basis (from home) attending staff meetings in central London one day a week.

Reporting to the Publishing Director this is a pivotal role in the editorial team and responsibilities will include: 

  • Developing relationships with Authors to manage the development of their manuscripts from concept through to production which will involve : 
    •  Substantive editing whereby you will have a high level of input into content and structure.
    • Coaching authors in a very hands on manner.
    • Meet with UK based Authors on a face to face basis.
  • Project manage the process of digital projects such as e-books 
  • Assist Commissioning Editor to commission a new range of pocket study guides 
  • Support the Sales & Marketing teams by attending events such as Student Fresher Fairs, Book Fairs, and Medical Conferences.

This is a successful organisation which publishes globally, publishing over 30 new UK book titles a year, where authors are drawn from international centres of medical excellence.

The successful person will have:

  • Biomedical Sciences Degree (Essential)
  • Publishing experience from a medical/healthcare background, (books or journals) in a position such as Development Editor, Associate Development Editor, or Assistant Editor.
  • Content is highly structured student content requiring an interest in academic and STM publishing
  • A demonstrable ability to manage your own time while working remotely
  • Confident verbal and face to face communication skills
